 　　With these words, the angry fairy disappeared. 说完这些话，这个怒气冲冲的仙女就消失了。

　　Everyone at the feast¹ was frightened; but the last of the twelve fairies had not yet told what her gift would be. 宴会上的每一个人都吓坏了，但12个仙女中最后一个仙女还没有说出她的礼物是什么。

　　She stood up as soon as the wicked² fairy had left, and said, 这个邪恶的仙女一走，她就站了起来，说：

　　"The princess shall not die. A deep sleep will fall upon her, but she will awake at the end of a hundred years." 公主是不会死的，她只会陷入深深的睡眠，100年后，她会醒来。

　　From that time on, the king and queen were very sad. 从此以后，国王和王后非常忧伤。

　　So he gave orders that every spinning wheel in the whole country should be burned. 于是，他下了命令，要求全国的纺车都要烧掉。

　　But an old woman who lived up in the tower of the castle hid her spinning wheel. 但是一位住在城堡的塔上的老妇人藏起了自己的纺车。

　　"No one shall burn it," she said to herself." It will be safe up here in the tower." 没人能烧了这辆纺车，她自言自语说，它就放在塔上，这里很安全。

　　As time passed, the fairy gifts came to the young princess. 随着时间的流逝，这些仙女的礼物逐渐在年轻的公主身上显现了出来。

　　She grew to be good and kind and wise and beautiful. 她健康、善良、聪明、美丽。

　　Everyone who saw her, loved her. 每一个见到她的人都很喜欢她。

　　At last she came to the room in the tower of the castle. 最后，她来到了塔上的那个房间。

　　A key was in the door, and when the princess turned it, the door opened. 门上插着钥匙，公主转了一下，门开了。

　　There sat an old woman, busily spinning flax. 里面坐着一个老妇人，她正在忙碌地纺着亚麻。
