20多年来的现实生活给予我一个深刻的教训：不管是在我们的学习，工作还是生活中，要学会融入这些群体，学会和人打交道，学习、事业和生活才可能成功，孤军作战是失败的。那么在打交道的时候，就得具有合作的意识，具有团队的意识。哪怕顺着别人的拍子走，吃点亏也不要在乎。特别是当我们共同处于困难的境地时，就更需要具有合作的团队精神，同舟共济，共度难关。这时候，我们大家都会说这样一句话：“我们是同一条船上的人。”

今天我们就来看看这句话的意思在英文中如何表达。我们先来听下面的2个句子：

 

►If you lose your job I'll lose mine, so we are both in the same boat.

 

►We wage earners are all in the same boat during these hard days.

 

在我们刚才听到的2个例句中，我们都可以听到同一个词语：in the same boat。这是一条介词性习惯用语。习语中的same是“同样的”的意思，boat是指“船”。In the same boat字面意思就是“在同一条船上”，比喻为“in the same unpleasant situation as other people”的意思，译为“同样的不幸处境”“共患难”等等。刚才我们说了这是一条介词性习惯用语，当然是做方式状语，像我们常说的“同舟共济”就可以用到这个习语，即：cross a river in the same boat。要做谓语就要和系动词连用，即：to be in the same boat。

 

我们再通过四个例句来体会这个习语的意思和运用这个习语：

 

1.She's always complaining that she doesn't have enough money, but we're all in the same boat.

 

译文：她总是不停地抱怨她的钱不够多，但是我们也是如此呀。

 

2.If he loses his job he'll be in the same boat as any other unemployed¹ person.

 

译文：如果他失业，他就和其他没有工作的人一样处境艰难。

 

注解：be in the same boat as sb：和某人同命相连，和某人一样处于不好的境地

 

3.I don't know why you're complaining that you have to pay more, we're all in the same boat.

 

译文：我不知道你为什么要抱怨你多付一些，我们现在是难兄难弟。

 

4.When we come up against difficulties, we should cross a river in the same boat.

 

译文：当我们遇到困难，我们应该同舟共济。

 

注解：come up against：（突然或意外地）遇到苦难 再如：We expect to come up against a lot of opposition² to the scheme.我们预计这个计划要遭到很多人反对。He often came up against the problem of money. 他那时常常碰到钱的问题。

 

我们现在知道我们最初听到的2个例句的意思，现在我们就回到它们当中来看看它们的意思。

 

►If you lose your job I'll lose mine, so we are both in the same boat.

 

这句话是说：如果你失业，我也失业，所以我们俩处境一样。

 

►We wage earners are all in the same boat during these hard days.

 

这句话是说：在这些艰难的岁月里，我们干活挣钱的人命运相同。

 

注解：wage earner：靠工资为生的人 hard days：苦日子，艰苦的岁月

 

我们今天的这招说“Cooperation”（合作）——in the same boat，意思是“同样不幸的处境”“共患难”。我们中文中说“我们同在一条船上”，也是表示我们处于同样的处境，这样就需要我们pull ourselves together and work together to cross the river in the same boat（振作精神，协力工作，同舟共济，共度难关）。
