(单词翻译:双击或拖选)
In the early 70s, when Gil met them, Filhos De Gandhi were in a bad way, they were the only Bloco Afro in Bahia, playing African at ceremonies, that they have few members and weren’t even taking part in Carnival1. Gil joined the group and brought them new fame and popularity with a song about them, but he performed with Gori band.
The song helped Filhos De Gandhi win new members and a new following. In the military era, the resurgence2 of a black religious carnival group like this was seen a sign of resistance in Salvador.
The renewed success of Filhos De Gandhi led to the formation of a far more militant3, directly political Bloko Afro in Ile Aive, also praised in the song recorded by Gilberto Gil. Since the days of president back in the days of the 1930s, Brazil have prided itself for being a multi-national state, but Bahia as in all the black communities, there were continuing complaints about discrimination.
