 An unexpected break in the weather means I am able to make one more stab at the summit. -It's difficult to believe this is the same spot as yesterday without the rain. You can actually see. And look at that vista¹! 

With the spring back into my stab, the action turns up n* and my walk penetrates² the next tier of the Drakensberg. Here, I am almost entirely³ surrounded by wall of mountains. Far above, the towering spire⁴ of my Cathedral continues to beckon⁵.

-We just step up onto another world. Luckily behind we've done this.

 

As I make my way upswing hill, the difference between the lower and up bird becomes even more clear. It's quite unlike any mountain range I've ever walked before.

-These cunning link lines, they just get you.

-They do.

It's taken over 150 million years to shape and mow⁶ these peaks. When the world's regional super continent broke up, Africa was pulled apart. Molten lava⁷ rocked through giant ashes, creating these mighty⁸ ridges⁹, some of the oldest on the planet.
