Sean Paul在St. Andrew的一个艺术家庭中长大，其双亲都是颇有天赋的运动员，母亲还是当地一位知名画家。他的家庭成员多是游泳运动员，其祖父和父亲都是国家水球队运动员，其双亲也都是游泳运动员。故身为混血儿的他自幼就很喜欢运动，并十分擅长游泳和水球。后来，Paul也继承父业加入了牙买加国家水球队，从13岁开始到21岁都在为国家队效力。
