The Japanese delegation¹ said they travelled to the DPRK to learn in detail about the latest investigation² into the abduction of Japanese citizens by the DPRK in the 1970s and 80s. The DPRK has refused to disclose details of the two-day meetings, or whether a new round of negotiations³ will be held in the near future.

In July the DPRK announced the establishment of a special committee tasked with probing the fate of the kidnapped Japanese citizens. In return, Japan eased several sanctions on the DPRK.
