Person fell into Halemaumau crater¹. The overnight rescue forced firefighters to rappel into one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Dropping into the mouth of Kilauea, rescue teams fishing the victim out of the smoking cauldron. Slipped literally² off the edge into the crater.

A 32 year old visitor now in stable condition after climbing over a safety rail for a better look, losing his footing and plunging³ seven storeys off the craters⁴ edge. Though Kilauea is not currently erupting, a year ago today the molten lava⁵ violently destroyed 700 homes. Drawing visitors from around the world, the accident at Kilauea comes after fatal Falls at Yosemite and Grand Canyon⁶. Tonight in some of the world's most beautiful places, an ugly reality, visitors turning stunning⁷ views into dangerous accidents.
