After a week filled with increasingly insistent¹ legal advice, Jobs finally agreed to go on medical leave.

He made the announcement on January 14, 2009, in another open letter to the Apple staff.

At first he blamed the decision on the prying² of bloggers and the press.

"Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction³ not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple," he said.
