布瑞来看望正在苦闷中的贝斯...

Beth:Hi!

Bree: I-I haven't seen you out in a while, so I thought I'd stop by and see how you were doing.

Beth: What do you really want?

Bree: Well,I talked to reverend sykes yesterday, and he tells me that you've been going through kind of a rough¹ patch².

Beth: Come on in. You know,growing up,I didn't really have a lot of friends. We weren't a very...Social family. But I was never hated.

Bree: Nobody hates you.

Beth: But they hate my husband...Don't they? I just wish people could understand him. He is not a bad man. It's just,his life has been so difficult. He went to prison³ for a murder he didn't commit⁴. His wife killed herself. His son hates him. He's been through a lot.

Bree: Well,I may not be able to convince⁵ people to like paul, but there's no reason you should suffer⁶ for what he's done. I am having the girls over this week, and I think it would be wonderful if you'd join us.

Beth: That's very sweet. But I think we both know those women aren't gonna want me there.

Bree: Those women are my dear friends. Trust me.They'll be fine with it.

Beth: And if they're not?

Bree: Well,then I'll just have to twist⁷ some very dear arms.

贝斯：嗨!

布瑞：我...很久不见你出来了，所以过来看看你怎么样了。

贝斯：你到底想干嘛？

布瑞：昨天和赛克斯牧师谈过了，他跟我说，你近来诸事不顺。

贝斯：请进，从小到大，我都没什么朋友，我家不喜欢交际，但从没被人讨厌过。

布瑞：没人讨厌你。

贝斯：但他们很我丈夫，是吧？我只是希望别人能理解他，他并不坏，只是一生太过坎坷。他曾无辜入狱，他前妻自杀，他儿子又恨他，他经历了太多。

布瑞：我可能没法说服别人喜欢保罗，但你没必要承受他的罪过。闺蜜们这周会来我家，如果你能来 ，就太好了。

贝斯：你真好，但咱俩都明白，她们不想见到我的。

布瑞：她们是我闺蜜，相信我，她们不会介意的。

贝斯：那如果他们介意呢？

布瑞：那可由不得她们了。
