According to Reuters, two U.S. senators on Wednesday will ask the Trump¹ administration to investigate ZTE violated U.S. sanctions by helping² Venezuela set up a database that monitors the behavior of its citizens.

The letter asks the U.S senators to determine whether ZTE used U.S. components³ unlawfully or helped Venezuela's government flout⁴ democratic processes or human rights.

Earlier this year, ZTE paid $1 billion to the U.S. government in relation to sanctioned business in Iran and North Korea.
