Two women have been killed in a tragic¹ car crash in Melbourne's north-west overnight.

Police say two cars collided at Attwood in the city's north about 10 o'clock.

Both female victims were in a red hatchback, which was hit by a Mercedes.

The daughter of one of the women was in another car, and watched the crash unfold.

The driver of the Mercedes wasn't injured and is now assisting police with their investigation².

In western Australia, fisheries officers are hunting a shark that killed a diver yesterday.

The 60-year-old female diver was mauled off Mindarie in the second fatal shark attack near Perth in less than a week.

Authorities say the shark, which is thought to be a great white more than five metres long, is a serious threat to public safety.
