German authorities are questioning a man thought to be the driver of a truck that ploughed into crowds at a Christmas market in Berlin. At least 12 people were killed and 50 others injured. Germany's interior minister says there are indications it was a deliberate attack while Australia's foreign minister Julie Bishop1 says her department had warned tourists three days ago, that German Christmas markets were vulnerable to attacks.

The Russian president vVadimir Putin has offered condolences to the family of the assassinated2 Russian ambassador to Turkey. Andrey Karlov was shot in the back whilst speaking at an art exhibition in the Turkish capital Ankara. The assailant was shot and killed by security forces. Mr Putin says the attack is a provocation3 aimed at derailing ties between Russia and Turkey.
