Crews are working to control a blaze¹ in New South Wales that has destroyed at least one home. The fire ripped² through nearly 2,500 hectares in just a few hours near Tarago, north east of Canberra. Water bombing aircraft are helping³ crews on the ground to try to contain the fire.

The search for missing⁴ Malaysia airlines flight MH370 has been suspended⁵. The Australian, Malaysian and Chinese governments say despite the best science available, they've been unable to find the plane. Authorities⁶ searched 120,000 square kilometres of the Indian Ocean for the plane that disappeared in March 2014.

A woman who was rescued along with her three sons from a Japanese ski field is an Australian doctor. The 57 year old and her 3 sons spent the night in sub-zero temperatures 1,600 metres above sea level in the ski town of Nozawa Onsen. They were taken to hospital, but are said to be in good health.
