According to new research, Body mass index and the number of cigarettes smoked per day can be used to predict weight changes during the decade after a smoker² quits lighting⁴ up.

最新研究表明：身体质量指数较高的和一天一支烟的人群，其戒烟后的10年里体重变化较大。

The researchers said the potential for light smokers to gain weight over time after they quit was not significant.

Susan Veldheer, a registered dietitian⁵ in the Department of Public Health Sciences at Penn State College of Medicine, said in a press release,

Reserachers analyzed⁶ data on 12,204 adults younger than 36 collected between 2003 and 2012 for the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
