The US Transportation Secretary is optimistic that automakers and tech companies developing self-driving vehicles will voluntarily comply with guidelines issued by the federal government.

Anthony Foxx added that the NHTSA has called on car companies to submit details about their autonomous¹ vehicle systems for a 15-point safety assessment².

Foxx also urged states to defer³ their vehicle regulations to the policies of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for this emerging technology.
