Senator Jacqui Lambie has resigned from the parliament after revealing she's entitled to British citizenship¹. In an emotional address to the senate, Ms Lambie says she hasn't slept in days fearing the advice from British authorities which arrived this morning. Her father was born in Scotland but thought his father had renounced² the family's citizenship when they moved to Australia.

The former New South Wales premier³ Kristina Keneally is making a political comeback as she takes on Liberal John Alexander in the Bennelong by-election. The Labor⁴ candidate believes she has a good chance despite Mr Alexander holding the Sydney seat by almost ten per cent. The vote will be held on the sixteenth of December.

Iran says rescue efforts have ended after a powerful earthquake struck the northern border with Iraq. More than four hundred people have been killed and another four thousand injured, when the seven point one magnitude quake hit. Most of the dead are from an Iranian Kurdish town where the only hospital has been badly damaged.
