 　　Tonino had never before eaten so many different things at one meal. 托尼诺以前从来没有吃过这么多东西。

　　First, there were olives and radishes and little sardines¹. 首先是橄榄、萝卜和小沙丁鱼。

　　Then they had stuffed tomatoes and eggplant, followed by roast veal² and potatoes. 接着烤牛肉和土豆吃完后又吃了西红柿和茄子。

　　For dessert the lady gave an order for ice-cream. 还要了份儿甜点——冰淇淋。

　　Of course, Tonino had never tasted any in his life. 当然，托尼诺从来没有吃过冰淇淋。

　　He thought it so delicious that he wanted to keep half to give to Nanou when he got back to Nouvilo. 他觉得冰淇淋太好吃了，所以想留一半给娜努，等回到Nouvilo拿给她。

　　He was sorry when he was told that there would be none left when he reached home. 当他得知回到家冰淇淋就化了时，他感到很遗憾。

　　But he could not help enjoying the rest of his ice-cream himself, since it was impossible to take it to Nanou. 既然冰淇淋不可能带给娜努了，他忍不住吃完剩下的冰淇淋。

　　VISITING THE FAIR 逛集市

　　After lunch they sat at the table for a long time. 午饭后，他们在桌子旁坐了很长时间。

　　Then the pottery-lady had to go back to her shop, and Tonino and Mameto went off to visit the fair. 然后，陶器店女士不得不回到她的商店，托尼诺和玛莫去逛集市。

　　But the next time he went to the merry-go-round that had automobiles⁵. 但是，下次他要去骑汽车旋转木马。

　　Here he bought two tickets, for Mameto had said that she would like to have a ride in one with him. 他买了两张票，因为玛莫说想和他一起坐。

　　They chose a pale blue automobile⁴ and whirled around and around to the music. 他们选择了一辆淡蓝色的汽车，音乐响起，车开始旋转。

　　Mameto said one ride was enough for her, but Tonino had three more rides on the black horse. 玛莫说她骑一次就够了，但托尼诺又骑了三次黑色的旋转木马。
