Well my next guest is a mixed martial¹ arts artist who sprang into action last week tackling a man he saw assaulting people in the streets of New York City. Unfortunately that's happening a lot.

When you saw something going wrong you decided² to jump into action.

You have training, I would assume that you would think if you don't have training don't attempt this?

Um I mean definitely not.

I definitely would recommend that you either just call the cops or just yell and scream for help.

And fortunately I was able to just use my training to be able to help out.

Ro I do have a question: so in the video we can see you are there and then there's somebody on your back.

Who is that?

Um it was one of the gentlemen that wanted to help out uh and stop this guy because apparently³ he witnessed this guy assault another person, an older gentleman and also a kid.

So he was one of the two people that actually kind of like told me that he was assaulting other people.

And I just I just was able to again use my uh training to be able to subdue⁴ him and he was just helping⁵ to pin him down.

You live in New York City, have you seen an increase in crime in your area?

Absolutely, um at least for me uh just being able to uh just walk around and just trying to live in New York City.

Uh I constantly get harassed⁶ uh whether it's on the streets or on the train and and I've grown I grew up in New York City so uh it's really really been bad recently.

What tell me a little bit about MMA. How long have you been training and who do you recommend it for?

Um so I've been training uh in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 12 years. Prior to that I was a western boxing and currently I am learning judo⁷.

我已经训练巴西柔术12年了。在此之前，我是一名西洋拳击手，目前我正在学习柔道。

Um and it is really great for anyone actually uh because if you are looking to defend yourself.

其实对于任何人来说学习这个都是很好的事，因为这能帮你自卫。

I had an option here whether to confront this guy and it would have been an all-out brawl⁸ like you know punching and kicking.

我本可以选择是否要和这个家伙对质，如果要的话，那会是一场全面的打斗，我会对他拳打脚踢。

However it would have been like an assault on my end so for me to be able to use uh grappling um whether that's judo, Jiu Jitsu or wrestling.

但是那样就会像是我在袭击这个人，所以我选择用格斗的方式，用柔道，柔术或者摔跤。

I think that's the best form to be able to subdue a a person in this situation.
