　　France and Great Britain were not the only countries with which there was trouble. 法国和大不列颠并不是仅有的两个与美国纠葛的国家。

　　The Spaniards held posts on the Mississippi, within the limits of the United States and refused to give them up. 西班牙人占据着美国境内密西西比河上的一些据点，他们拒绝交出这些据点。

　　For a hundred miles the Mississippi flowed through Spanish territory. 密西西比河流经西班牙一百英里的领土，

　　He was disgusted with the tone of public life and detested³ party politics, and desired to pass the short remainder of his life in quiet at Mt. Vernon. 他憎恨党派政治，希望在安静的弗农山度过自己的晚年。

　　He announced his intention to retire in a Farewell Address, which should be read and studied by every American. 他在一次告别演说中公布了自己的退职愿望，所有的美国人都应该阅读和学习他的这次演讲。

　　In it he declared the Union to be the main pillar of independence, prosperity, and liberty. 在这个演讲中华盛顿说联邦是自由、繁荣和独立的主要支柱，
