The Chinese government is calling on the United States to stop abusing the concept of national security and to stop suppressing foreign companies.
This comes as Washington is reportedly considering adding Semiconductor1 Manufacturing International Corporation to a trade blacklist.
Foreign Ministry2 spokesperson Zhao Lijian has condemned3 the move.
"For a period of time, the U.S. has generalized the concept of national security, abused national power, and imposed various restrictive measures on Chinese companies without providing any real evidence. China firmly opposes such hegemonic moves."
He adds that the move not only violates international trade rules and disrupts the global industrial chain, but also damages the U.S. national interests and image.
SMIC has also issued a statement saying it has not violated any laws.
World Health Organization officials have praised China's achievements in the fight against COVID-19.
Health Emergencies Program director Michael Ryan:
"We congratulate the frontline workers and the communities in China for having reached such a successful outcome."
The WHO official made the remarks after China marked more than two weeks with no local COVID-19 infections. All new cases have been imported.
Johns Hopkins University says global COVID-19 deaths have surpassed 890 thousand.
The university also says there are over 27 million infections worldwide.

Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi consulate14 in Turkey in October 2018.
A number of top Saudi officials were arrested in connection with the case.
