The President touted¹ the progress that his Administration is already making in stopping the flow of illicit² drugs at the U.S. border: "We are shutting down on-line networks; cracking down on international shipments and going after foreign traffickers like never before."

The bill contains more than 70 provisions to expand treatment and recovery for Americans dealing³ with opioids addiction⁴. The Administration is also trying to tamp⁵ down on supply.

Last year, the Justice Department increased the average federal sentence for drug trafficking to its highest level since 2013.
